Using OCDE Project GLAD(R) Strategies to Promote Mathematical Language and Content Development
Discover how OCDE Project GLAD(R) strategies can be used to closing the opportunity gap for English learners in mathematics. The connections between the language routines in the design principles identified by Understanding Language/Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning and Equity and OCDE Project GLAD ® strategies give us a framework of high-yield routines that are effective in simultaneously developing mathematical language and content development. These routines and strategies increase opportunities for language output and deepen content comprehension. As the noted ,(Zweirs, Dieckmann, Rutherford-Quach, Daro, Skarin, Weiss, Malamut, 2017, pg. 3), “Mathematical understanding and language competence develop interdependently.”
